Jason Momoa To Star In Minecraft Movie For Warner Bros

Aquaman and Dune star Jason Momoa is lining up another tentpole with Warner Bros. All about video games Jason Momoa is in final talks to be a part of the live-action Minecraft movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Jared Hess, Napoleon Dynamite director, will be directing the project, which is inspired by the game that is so popular.



Mary Parent, Dune producer Mary Parent, Dune producer Roy Lee will co-produce. Jill Messick will receive a posthumous production credit for her involvement in the development of the film prior to when she passed away in 2018. Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts. The video game originates from Sweden's Mojang Studios, with Mojang's Lydia Winters and Vu Bui as producers.



Minecraft The game, which was launched in 2011 allows players to build structures using blocks and worlds. The game became a sensation, reaching 100 million users just a few years after the game's launch. In 2014, Microsoft bought Mojang for $2.5 Billion.



Warners has been working on a project based on the game for a long time. Shawn Levy, Rob McElhenney, and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob McElhenney have been attached to direct.



Gaming films have been on a brisk streak in recent times and this includes 20th Century launching a hit franchise with Ryan Reynolds' Free Guy last year and Paramount getting a lot of success with its Sonic sequel earlier in the month.



Momoa and Warners are releasing Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom in March 2023. The film is the sequel of Aquaman (2018) which grossed $1 billion. Momoa is repped by WME and Edelstein Laird. Hess is represented by UTA and Sloane Offer.
