The wild success of Minecraft didn't come without its problems, one of which was that the original game was coded in Java. This version is still preferred by many players, but the Bedrock edition was renamed to 'Minecraft’ in 2017.

Confused? The differences are important for those who invest in Minecraft. The most important is that the Java edition is easier to modify. No matter how you play Minecraft, the split always had a notable flaw on PC. Extremecraft You had to buy both separately. Now Mojang and Microsoft has announced that, as of tomorrow June 7, the two versions of what some consider the most successful game of all time have been smooshed-together into Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.

That's some inspired naming right there. This allows buyers to access both editions and is the "only offering" of vanilla Minecraft for Windows PC. Of course, you will be able to cross-play with either Java or Bedrock players by launching whichever edition your friends are playing."

Players who have one of the versions will be upgraded to the duo pack edition. Mojang admits that it may take a while for the new package to be fully rolled out. However, all Minecraft Launcher owners will see the new package within the next few hours.

Mojang announced the change in a blogpost. "To be clear Java and Bedrock will remain distinct games with their respective features." "The only difference now is that you get both when you purchase Minecraft for Windows PC. And access them both using the same launcher.

Over the years, there has been controversy about the split between versions. Java players were furious when Microsoft started insisting that they have a Microsoft account. But this move seems to on the face of it just make a lot of sense and be good for players.

Minecraft itself is in incredible health. Players are awaiting the massive Wilds update this month (opens in new window). It is still a constant presence in the real world, most recently being used for President Emmanuel Macron's reelection campaign (opens new tab). I wonder how many people could vote on that server. Players continue to create mind-blowing visual spectacles, regardless of which edition they are using (opens in new window).
