We hope you're not too attached to either of the Minecraft Java or Bedrock editions of one of the most played building games for PC. Microsoft and Mojang confirmed that they will be discontinued on June 7.

You may be confused by the existence of two versions of Minecraft on PC, the Java and Bedrock editions. PCGamesN offers a helpful guide to help you understand the differences between the two versions. However, if you've purchased one, you won't be able to get access to the other. Which is a little crazy.

Mojang and Microsoft are in agreement, as they've announced (thanks, Neowin) the Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition - a single-purchase version of Minecraft on PC that will replace the separate editions. The game will be available for purchase on June 7, and will be "the all-inclusive and standard version of the original Minecraft for Windows PC."

Anyone who has either the Java or Bedrock editions will see it be upgraded to the combined edition without any additional purchase This should happen immediately - however "it could take anywhere from two to three days for the game to show up as we roll it out to all players who are eligible." Furthermore, Minecraft players should be capable of playing across versions without any hassle. minecraft servers

Mojang confirms that "Java and Bedrock will remain separate games with distinct features," with the only difference being that you don't have to purchase them separately, and you can play both on the same Minecraft launcher. This is a good thing for everyone, except for those who have recently purchased both of them separately. It should make downloading Minecraft much simpler.
