Minecraft has been around for a considerable time now and its popularity is increasing. However since its release on November 18 2011 numerous servers were added, removed, and lost. In the last 12 years, Minecraft has had four servers. Some were filled with drama and chaos while others were a calm haven for friends.

The Novylen Minecraft Server located in Canada is the official name of oldest Minecraft Server ever created, on the 9th of April, 2010, 4 months ahead of the previous holder, MinecraftOnline. If you go back, you'd see that MinecraftOnline was launched on the same day that multiplayer was first created. What was the reason Novylen created before this?
Although the server was launched the day after Minecraft Multiplayer's release, the map was created way earlier, when rbos, the owner, first played the map in his singleplayer world back in the Minecraft InfDev period (specifically InfDev 20100413), four months prior to the release of Minecraft Multiplayer. In addition, the server has never once been reset, meaning the player could have hopped on 10 years ago, built something, and then left forever and their work being the only reminder of their existence. Novylen is a lot less popular than 2b2t. This means it hasn't faced the same fate as many other frights, exploits, hackers, and others. A lot of the original designs from 2010 are still in use in the present.

Nerd.nu was launched for the first time on June 10, 2009, just three days after Minecraft's official Multiplayer release Version 0.0.16a. It was so early in Minecraft that survival mode was not an option in the game yet. Nerd.nu has hosted a variety of Minecraft creations as you can see in the above image. The server has had various game modes added over the years The most popular and longest-running is the 'Creative' one, where players have no healthbar, are able to fly, and can build whatever they want with their imagination.
Although the server was launched in the early days there are those who believe that MinecraftOnline is a lot older than it was. This is due to the fact that the map has been reset several times throughout the years, meaning it's not the same as it was 20 years ago. Nerd.nu's Creative gamemode is currently in its 36th revision, which means it was reset 35 times.

MinecraftOnline was first created on August 4th, 2010 and has enjoyed the title of being the longest-running server in Minecraft's history because it was launched within an hour of Notch releasing survival multiplayer mode. Since then, astonishingly the server has remained up and running and has not been reset once. Why is it not looking like the clump of cobblestone 2b2t is?
Well, amazingly, MinecraftOnline has had a staff team since its inception and, unlike 2b2t MinecraftOnline has rules that players must follow. It's not always clear that players follow the rules though during the 12 years it has been in operation, more than 43,000 players have been exiled. This isn't the only interesting aspect, as the size of the world (remember that it has never been reset) has reached an astounding 26GB of storage space, which is just ONE world.

2b2t is among the most well-known Minecraft servers. 2b2t was founded in December 2010. It is known as an "anarchy server". This means that there are thousands of players playing with the hacked client software, and a lack of friendliness. This gives the server its distinctive, beat-up appearance. The server's most famous feature is its map. It has not been changed since it was created. This means that countless players have left and come back throughout the years, leaving their marks on the server forever.
In the beginning 2b2t saw a steady flow of players, varying between 10-80 over the years. In June 2016 however, things changed when TheCampingRusher uploaded his very first video. The server is used by many other YouTubers and has made 2b2t a highly popular website. The server had over 1000 active users in 2022, and it's unlikely that number will decrease anytime soon.
